June 28th, 1969. A police invasion of the Stonewall Inn, a gay club located in Greenwich Village mostly populated by drag queens and people of color, would spark riots and across the city of New York that decades later would come to be celebrated as Pride Month. What began as an uprising should never be forgotten as we still fight for equal rights for everyone under the LGBTQIA+ umbrella regardless of how they identify and who they love. As a pan and queer artist who has been quietly watching the conversation surrounding Pride Month this year, I created a design that, for me, speaks to the history and the distance we still have to go.
